An additional 7,000 ladies in Britain have been told they are using PIP
breast implants that are now banned in the country.
Approximately 40,000 women had already been told they are affected by the
issue, with that number now rising to 47,000.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley has guaranteed anybody who has had breast
surgery to fit the banned implants will be given the full support of the NHS.
"These women are the victims of a fraudulent company and I know this
situation is causing a huge amount of anxiety," he stated.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons last week applauded
Lloyds TSB for its decision to reimburse one woman who paid out for the
implants.
Not every woman who invested in the PIP implants
is affected, however, as one in five of the products must be replaced every
decade so some will already have had the faulty items removed.
