£50,000 donation to ovarian cancer action could help save thousands of lives

Simplyhealth

Ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cause of death from cancer in women. Thanks to a £50,000 donation from Simplyhealth, Ovarian Cancer Action can continue to fund life saving research into this disease.

Each year 6,700 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and undergo platinum chemotherapy treatment to fight the disease. It is not known why seven out of every ten tumours become resistant to this treatment over time. It is this resistance that a team of scientists at the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre based in Imperial College London has been funded to investigate.

Mark Day at Simplyhealth comments, "This programme of work is crucial in the development of alternative treatment. We hope the research proves successful and look forward to hearing how far the team has progressed at the end of the year."
