Women who overeat

Mothers-to-be might want to look into private maternity services to help them find somebody who can advise them of the best diet to follow during their pregnancy.

Commenting on the research, fertility advisor and acupuncturist Emma Cannon said that diet and digestion are "very important" during pregnancy.

She added: "It is important to eat regularly and to eat cooked foods that are easy on the digestion.

"Foods which nourish the blood are ideal, chicken soup made from chicken stock and leafy green vegetable."

Meanwhile, warm foods, such as cooked stews and meats, were also flagged up are acceptable, but Ms Cannon warned people to avoid stimulants such as alcohol and coffee while they are pregnant.
