People who are losing some weight in preparation for
obesity treatment might be interested to learn that there is "no magic bullet" for weight loss.
According to Jenny Caven, a spokeswoman for Slimming World, consumers are increasingly becoming aware of the fact that the best way to keep weight off in the long-term is to by "following a healthy diet and becoming more active".
People waiting for obesity treatment might want to take this advice to help improve the effects of their surgery.
Ms Caven added that one of the greatest challenges presented to weight-loss patients is the fact that unhealthy lifestyle choices are "all too readily available".
To tackle this she suggested: "Getting together with others who face similar challenges and sharing thoughts, successes and experiences is one of the best indicators of successful weight loss."
The comments come as a Japanese company Ajinomoto has applied to the Food Standards Agency to market dihydriocapsiate as a novel food ingredient.
It claims that the product, which occurs naturally in chilli peppers, can improve energy expenditure and fat oxidation, perhaps providing a role in weight management.
However, Ms Caven said that this provides "a false hope" for people looking to lose weight by encouraging them to think that they won't gain weight if they eat unhealthy foods.
