Cosmetic surgery 'increasingly popular among men'

American Society of Plastic Surgeons

Cosmetic surgery is being taken up by more and more men, according to the latest figures.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) found that more men are going under the knife than ever, with a two per cent increase in cosmetic surgery procedures among males between 2009 and 2010.

President of ASPS Phillip Haeck commented: "The growth in cosmetic surgical procedures for men may be a product of our ageing baby boomers who are now ready to have plastic surgery.

"Minimally-invasive procedures such as Botox™ and soft tissue fillers work to a point. However, as you age and gravity takes over, surgical procedures that lift the skin are necessary in order to show significant improvement."

Of the procedures performed last year, facelifts proved to be one of the most popular, with a 14 per cent increase in the number of men going under the knife.

Meanwhile, ear surgery operations increased in number by 11 per cent, while soft tissue fillers went up by ten per cent.
