A good care homes should be tailored to offer a service to those that it looks after.
This is the view of Daniel Blake, policy development manager at Action on Elder Abuse, who has noted that care homes will take time to ask new residents what they would like.
Questions like "what food do you like? What time do you like to eat your food? How do you like to eat your food? What time do you like to get up? What do you like to do in the day?" are all things care homes should be enquiring about, Mr Blake said.
He added that families who are looking for a care home for a relative should take their time to talk to existing residents in order to assess how good the establishment is.
The comments follow an announcement from the Care Quality Commission, launching a consultation on how to define excellence in adult social care.
