Cosmetic surgery fans will be glad to hear that a recent study has found that silicone breast implants are not linked to breast cancer.
Published in the journal Cancer Causes and Control, the research is one of the largest into the long-term health effects of breast implants.
Conducted by a team from the National Cancer Institute in the US, the project found no positive or negative association between the disease and the cosmetic procedure.
Louise Brinton, principal investigator on the research, commented: "For women followed for more than ten years, there was no change in breast cancer risk.
"Our results do not confirm the findings from several other studies that exposure to implants reduces a woman's risk for breast cancer. This may relate to the longer follow-up in this study as compared with most others."
Around 13,500 women were monitored in the research after they had undergone implant surgery for cosmetic reasons in both breasts between 1962 and 1989.
