Research from Post Office Travel Insurance suggests that cost-cutting skiers and snowboarders would consider hitting the slopes without travel insurance this year.
Medical expenses account for three quarters of ski holiday travel insurance claims, so those hitting the slopes should review their travel insurance cover before jetting off. Skiers who travel without travel insurance or with inadequate travel insurance cover could face some hefty bills if they suffer an accident while on holiday.
Typical skiing injuries can be very costly. For example, with a dislocated hip costing approximately £11,000 and a fractured leg up to £9,000 in Europe, UK skiers without adequate travel insurance could be setting themselves back by thousands. It is therefore important to ensure any travel insurance policy taken out offers enough to cover these medical expenses.
Rachel Croft says, "Winter sports are great fun but there are also greater risks involved. Every year we see hundreds of our travel insurance customers suffer broken and fractured limbs, head injuries and dislocated shoulders. With medical costs associated with winter sports holidays often running into thousands of pounds, adequate travel insurance is crucial."
