Nearly half of the UK feels that a size 12 is the ideal dress size, according to research conducted by a weight loss surgery company.
Surgicare's survey concluded that 45 per cent of the 2,000 people surveyed believe that a size 12 is perfect, with just 0.4 per cent believing that a size four (a US size zero) is the ideal, despite recent media reports about weight loss trends.
Interestingly both men and women involved in the poll agreed that size 12 was ideal, with a size ten being the next popular size with 28 per cent of support. A total of 18 per cent of the participants opted for a more curvy size 14 favourite.
Surgicare's cosmetic surgery chief executive, Mark Bury, explained: "We are surprised by the results because we thought there would be obvious differences in what men and women considered the ideal dress size."
He added: "However, it's reassuring to find out the size zero debate isn't changing public opinion and nearly half of the population prefer a healthy size 12."
