Many people opt for tooth whitening

Lots of people opt for tooth whitening procedures, one sector commentator has asserted.

Karen Coates, dental advisor for the British Dental Health Foundation, made her remarks after the publication of a survey by Align Technology, which found that almost half (46 per cent) of women between the ages of 25 and 54 feel embarrassed about their teeth.

She said that one of the main reasons that people opt to have their teeth whitened is because of staining.

Ms Coates continued by noting that certain foodstuffs, such as red wine, tea and coffee, can all contribute to teeth becoming stained.

"Even curry has the potential if it's highly coloured to be staining [the teeth]. Many people do have their teeth whitened and there are more instances of it certainly," the sector expert explained.

Concluding, she noted that people who smoke often find that their teeth become stained and so often opt to have tooth whitening procedures carried out.
