The North West’s leading provider of IVF, Manchester Fertility Services, is offering would-be parents the opportunity to maximise their chances of conceiving with a comprehensive fertility MOT.
People who are either actively trying to conceive or hoping to try for a baby in the future, can undergo a range of tests designed to highlight any potential problems or barriers to conceiving.
Tests for both men and women are carried out by experienced fertility experts within the calming surroundings of a purpose-built unit at Manchester Fertility Services – based at the state-of-the-art Bridgewater Hospital, South Manchester.
Professor Brian Lieberman, founder of MFS, said: “One in six couples experience some kind of problem surrounding fertility and many people with fertility problems wait too long before seeking advice and treatment.
“The fertility MOT is ideal for anyone who wants to rule out any possible fertility issues, whether they’re single or in a relationship. In fact, MFS is seeing a real demand for this service from single, career women. The MOT can provide them with the reassurance that, when the time is right to start a family, they’ll potentially be able to conceive.”
The likely fertility of a woman can be determined by a range of simple blood tests. These tests include measuring the level of AMH (Anti-Mullerian hormone) – which gives an estimate of how many eggs remain in the ovary; a urine test to exclude chlamydia; and a test to confirm that she is immune to rubella (German measles).
Men’s fertility is assessed by a semen analysis and tests for chlamydia.
Patients are then invited back to the clinic two to three weeks later, when an expert consultant will discuss their results. At this point the woman will undergo an ultrasound scan of the uterus and ovaries and, if required, will have contrast sonography (HyCoSy) to check the fallopian tubes.
As part of the service, aspiring parents are also offered expert advice on fertility treatments such as IVF, surgical sperm retrieval and donor insemination.
Manchester Fertility Services was established by Professor Brian Lieberman in 1986 and continues to be the region’s leading provider of IVF. It houses a dedicated IVF theatre and laboratory meeting the exacting standards of the European Tissue Directive.
