Latest figures show surge in cosmetic surgery for men

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has just released surprising new industry statistics showing an increase in cosmetic surgery procedures despite the economic climate with particular growth in interest from men.

This growth is being fuelled in particular by an increase in male cosmetic surgery procedures.

BAAPs figures reflect procedures carried out by their members in 2010 and showed:

  1. Cosmetic surgical procedures up by 5% in total
  2. Male surgery up by 7%
  3. The most popular surgery for men was rhinoplasty

The Hospital Group has also released encouraging figures – enquiries for cosmetic surgery in January were up 11% vs the previous year.

Although men still account for only 13% of all enquiries, this is a figure that will continue to grow as the group has seen a massive 28% increase in enquiries from men.  The most popular procedures are:

1. Rhinoplasty

2. Otoplasty (ear reshaping)

3. Eye bag removal

This differes to BAAPs members reports that male breast reduction was now in 2nd place with procedures up 28% year on year.  However, The Hospital Group did see a massive 55% increase in enquiries for the male breast reduction in January 2011 compared to January 2011.

The fastest growing area of interest for both men and women is a surprising one – mole removal.  This indicates an increased focus on wanting to remove imperfections like moles.  Going to a private healthcare provider like The Hospital Group offers patients confidentiality and speed of treatment.

CEO David Ross commented “It’s good to see that interest in cosmetic surgery procedures is thriving, despite the economic difficulties.  Cosmetic surgery is still a market that is in growth, as cosmetic surgery becomes more and more widely accepted.  Traditional facial reshaping procedures like rhinoplasty and otoplasty still top the ops for us with our male patients.  However, we can see increased interest in looking younger, with eye bag removal now our 3rd most popular procedure for men.  New procedures such as the one stitch face lift are also increasing very rapidly as they offer patients wanting to turn back the years a subtle and quick alternative to the traditional face lift and a more permanent solution than BOTOX.  We are continually expanding our range of procedures and treatments with procedures such as this to offer our patients more options in how they want to look.”
