An MEP has called for
an advertising ban on
breast implants following the PIP scandal.
The Hull Daily Mail reports Linda McAvan, Labour MEP for Yorkshire and the
Humber, asked for the action after debating the report produced by the European
Parliament on PIP implants.
Ms McAvan said: "A common thread that this scandal has highlighted is
just how casually cosmetic surgery is presented.
"Anyone who has flicked through the back of a women's magazine will
know the prevalence of advertising for cosmetic surgery."
She explained that some companies do not make any attempt to explain the
intricacies of the medical procedures, which often require a lifelong
commitment.
The British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons recently called
for a similar ban.
Following a report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image, BAAPS
President Fazel Fatah said a separate code for cosmetic surgery advertisements
should be established.
