Could lifestyle changes help women with infertility treatment?

Zita West Clinic

Making small lifestyle changes could help women on infertility treatment conceive.

According to Zita West, a fertility expert and founder of the Zita West Clinic, even just getting a good work-life balance could make conceiving and the first weeks of pregnancy successful.

She also cited exercise, cutting down on alcohol and caffeine and examining weight and stress levels as important to preparing for pregnancy.

After this, women were then advised to ensure they are taking in enough vitamins, folic acid and a diet rich in antioxidants.

"Once you get pregnant, your body doesn't rely on anything you have in any one day. It looks at your stores," Ms West explained.

"So anything that you have eaten prior to getting pregnant, is very, very helpful in building up your supplies, such as B vitamins, vitamin C, antioxidants, ready for your pregnancy."

It was reported last week that caffeine could affect infertility as the drug reduces muscle activity in the Fallopian tubes, according to research by the University of Nevada.
