Cosmetic surgery 'considered for career boost'

Workers in the UK are considering undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures in order to boost their careers.

A recent survey conducted by the MyFaceMyBody Show found that one in ten people would choose to have a surgical procedure for the sake of their career.

It was also revealed that one in 20 had already undergone cosmetic surgery for the same purpose.

Stephen Handisides, presenter of the show and former male model, commented: "It's interesting in the recession to examine how important people feel their looks are in maintaining or furthering their jobs.

"In our show we interview a woman who had a number of procedures including a face and neck lift, which she feels have been instrumental in developing her confidence and therefore a high-profile career."

While 19 per cent were avoiding cosmetic surgery because of a lack of time, the main worry was the cost involved, with 60 per cent of people citing this as a barrier to having any work done.
