2009 British Transplant Games

Westfield Health logo

Anticipation is building as 900 athletes prepare for the launch of the 32nd Westfield Health British Transplant Games, organised by the charity Transplant Sport UK (TSUK). 1500 visitors are expected to flock to Coventry to support the athletes and add to the party atmosphere, in what looks set to be a year to remember. In 2008, some 2800 lives were saved or dramatically improved thanks to the generosity and courage of donors and their families. The Games aims to celebrate the gift of life and raise awareness of the remarkable impact it has on transplantees.

The Games offers people a clear demonstration of the power of organ donation, as they get to see the sheer physical fitness of the athletes who have all undergone a transplant operation. This is a fantastic weekend, offering heaps of family fun, while carrying a very serious message. The aim of the Games is to inspire people to sign the NHS Donor Register and give the gift of life. It only takes a minute to sign, but can give someone a whole lifetime to enjoy.
