GP sheds third of body weight

Obesity scales

A 62-year-old GP has lost a third of his body weight thanks to obesity surgery.

Dr Ahmed Badat had considered undergoing obesity surgery years ago but was concerned by the risks the procedure used to pose.

Recently, however, he decided to put his faith in recent medical studies that have supported obesity surgery as a suitable form of obesity treatment for patients who have failed to lose a significant amount of weight through diet and exercise.

Dr Badat told Pulse magazine that he had tried "every diet under the sun" but always put the weight back on again at the end of each diet.

"Eventually I just got used to being obese, but what I could not cope with were the conditions I developed as a result of my weight," he revealed.

Now, along with shrinking from 23st to 15st, Dr Badat has also been cured of his diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

He revealed: "I am over the moon."

The average gastric band patient loses between 50 and 60 per cent of their excess weight and many people subsequently choose to have cosmetic surgery to remove excess skin.
