Planned private hospital to provide cancer treatment

County Donegal in Ireland could soon have a new private hospital, which would provide a new facility for cancer treatment.

Private healthcare consortium Northwest Healthcare is reportedly applying for planning permission for the new private hospital, which will be a 50-bed facility and is expected to cost €60 million.

Northwest director Pat Harvey said that there are "huge" problems with access to radiotherapy treatment at present.

"We're well aware of the need for radiationoncology services in the area," he told the Sunday Business Post.

"If we get planning and everything goes as speedily as we hope, the hospital will be built towards the end of 2008 or early 2009."

Mr Harvey added that beds at the 12,000 square metre development, which will offer renal dialysis, surgery facilities and a state-of-the-art diagnostic department, will be available to both the private and public sector.
