Demand for male breast reduction surges

Men are becoming more image-conscious and many are opting for breast reduction surgery, experts have revealed.

According to private hospital group BMI Healthcare, the number of men seeking breast reduction surgery has increased by 256 per cent over the past six months, compared to a 43 per cent rise for females.

Sharon Goring, national project manager for BMI Healthcare, told the Evening Standard that people are becoming increasingly educated about cosmetic surgery.

"The UK has witnessed a dramatic increase in certain procedures but this is the first time we have seen such a change in breast reduction," Ms Goring revealed.

The manager also stressed that surgery should not be considered as a "quick and easy solution".

Men who are considering cosmetic surgery for over-sized breasts (gynaecomastia) are advised to attempt alternative techniques such as diet and exercise before resorting to surgery as, although most people experience no complications, there are risks associated with any kind of surgical procedure.
