We have already covered news of most of the main changes by insurers to comply with the new definitions of critical illness agreed by trade body ABI.
A few stragglers have quietly updated their products:
Scottish Widows
ABI standard with no enhanced definitions.
Has added progressive supranuclear palsy and bone-marrow failure to its guaranteed-rate plan, plus traumatic head injury for both guaranteed and reviewable products.
Skandia
Now ABI standard, plus for aorta graft surgery, covering traumatic injury to the aorta as well as disease; covers HIV through IVF, as well as blood transfusion; and has added traumatic head injury.
Synergy
Now ABI standard with extra illnesses as before, with addition of traumatic head injury.
There are some insurers who have made minor changes to products inline with ABI definitions.
Nationwide Life does not cover all the ABI definitions. NFU Mutual covers only a small handful of illnesses, and does not cover the majority of the ABI illnesses.
