A pair of medical specialists say their first-hand evidence
of a change in the type of person choosing to undergo cosmetic procedures,
backs up nationwide statistics.
Dr Seth Kates and Dr A. David Simkin, both of Worcester
Dermatology Associates, say they have started to see a far more diverse group
of patients coming forward for surgical and non-invasive treatments.
According to Dr Kates, there has been an increase in the
number of men wanting injectable treatments and believes this trend will
continue to grow over the next few years.
"Both of our offices have seen an influx of previously
non-traditional Botox
cosmetic patients," he said. "For instance, I've been noticing a much
higher percentage of males - including younger men - in my office asking about
Botox.
"As the public gains more awareness of Botox as a
viable solution to lines and wrinkles, the patient profile will cut an
increasingly broader swath across gender, age and ethnic lines."
The same trend has been recorded in the UK, with one
estimate claiming that men now account for one in every five Botox patients.
The
adoption of the cosmetic procedure by celebrities such as Simon Cowell and
Gordon Ramsey is said to have helped make the treatment more appealing to men.
