Working mums urged to exercise

Women exercising

An expert has advised working mothers to exercise whenever possible, with plenty of options open even for those who struggle to find the time or the money needed to take trips to the gym.

Health and wellbeing consultant Hermie Hogg - founder of Hermieopathy - acknowledged that women who have to juggle the demands of a job and raising young children often struggle to look after their own physical fitness.

"The ideal situation after work would be to walk to the bus stop and go the gym, but not everybody can do it," she explained. "Sometimes finances don't allow it, or they really don't have time."

Ms Hogg recommended spending time out in the fresh air after the working day and pointed out that even simple tasks such as walking up and down stairs can make a noticeable difference.

Her remarks came after research published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine suggested sedentary lifestyles can increase the risk of developing certain illnesses.
