Westfield Health and Neurocare have put their heads together to support a specialist sleep lab at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
Westfield has donated £22,750 to fund the state-of-the-art sleep laboratory. The new lab is believed to be the first of its kind to be installed in an NHS hospital outside London, and will help transform the lives of people from across the country who suffer from severe disorders such a sleep apnea and insomnia. The lab is designed to look like a typical bedroom with a cosy bed, duvet and nightstand to ensure patients are relaxed, but is free from disruptions such as light and sound. From a control room, patients are observed by neuroscience consultants using specialist equipment such as a polysomnography machine, which measures the breathing, muscles and oxygen brainwave activity of individuals struggling to sleep soundly.
