Seek help over money worries, says expert

money worries

An expert has urged Britons to seek out professional help if they feel financial and work concerns are getting the better of them, warning that simply ignoring any problems will not solve them.

Occupational psychologist Kim Stephenson - founder of advisory website Taming the Pound - explained that keeping on top of money issues is crucial in modern society, but suggested those who struggle to do so have options open to them.

"Take stock of where you are and talk to people - counsellors, friends, creditors - and don't bury your head in the sand or cut yourself off," he explained.

"Running away isn't going to help."

Mr Stephenson added that there are "no prizes" for eschewing the assistance of general practitioners and therapists. He also suggested simply getting priorities in order can be an important first step to balancing the books.

His remarks came after a study published in the Lancet last week indicated that the financial crisis had triggered an increase in suicides across Europe, although the rate of road deaths fell as car use became slightly less common.
