An expert has suggested that regular physical exercise is a good way of relieving many of the stresses of everyday life, with relatively simple activities found to be effective mood enhancers.
Slimming World spokeswoman Jenny Caven cited a report from NHS Choices, which pointed out keeping fit can help to combat anxiety and depression, as well as reducing the likelihood of developing such conditions.
"Getting more active needn't mean signing up for a gym or taking up jogging," she explained. "Anything from a walk in the park to gardening or even dancing around the house to music can make a difference."
Ms Caven added that exercise has the additional benefit of improving self-image by boosting weight loss and recommended group support to anyone concerned about various causes of stress.
Her remarks came after researchers from the University of Texas established a link between comfort eating and so-called "hunger hormone" ghrelin, which they claimed can be triggered by strenuous situations.
