Community spirit is alive and thriving


Four out of five still feel part of a community, according to a new study by Simplyhealth.The nationwide survey says that communities are still valued and very much a part of society.


87% believe they are responsible for their community, not the police or local council. This responsibility is divided between maintaining the community environment and nurturing a healthy relationship with those living next door or in the area.


65% know their neighbours with 93% regularly engaging in general chat. The convenience of having someone living next door is evident in 28% asking to borrow something such as cooking ingredients or garden items. It is important for families to feel safe in their community and 75% have this peace of mind by allowing their children to play with their neighbour's children. 71% feel that it is safe for them to do so unsupervised.63% have access to a community hall, 52% to recreational equipment and 27% to a communal garden.
