Speedos 'increasing male interest in cosmetic surgery'

Fashion trends are having an effect on male interest in cosmetic surgery, it has been suggested.

The Harley Medical Group has reported that the number of men opting for tummy tuck cosmetic surgery has risen by 24 per cent.

According to the director of the group, Liz Dale, this could have something to do with fashion's tendency towards skimpy male swimwear, such as the Speedos sported by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.

Ms Dale said: "The more traditional, baggy board shorts hid a multitude of sins.

"Many of the men that come to us for 'Speedo sag' surgery have lost weight or been on a fitness drive and are looking for surgery to remove stubborn pockets of fat or unsightly, loose flaps of skin on their paunch."

She added that cosmetic surgery is often the "final step in their journey to achieving a body they want".

Male chest reduction and upper thigh liposuction also proved popular in the run up to summer.
