Friends Provident explains that housepersons with little or no income can get income protection cover. Although seen as a niche market, people who do not qualify for full income protection insurance can receive up to £300 per week to help with household costs and/or childcare payments should they suffer an accident or illness.
With over 2 million housewives, a growing number of househusbands and 2.5 million classed as having 'mini-jobs' - working less than 16 hours a week, it is clear that there is a larger need than initially recognised.
Ed Stuart-Brown at Friends Provident says, "Houseperson cover is increasingly recognised as the forgotten market."
