A recent report has revealed a lack of bereavement care in the UK.
Conducted by Sands, the study found that there was a disparity among hospitals in the UK regarding the level of bereavement care on offer for parents who lost a child.
This may lead prospective parents to choose their hospital carefully, as 52 per cent of maternity units were found to have no designated support midwife.
Judith Schott, manager of improving bereavement care at Sands, suggested that society "is only just beginning to realise that the death of a baby is as significant as the death of an older child or adult" and this may be why the care support system is insufficient.
She added that good bereavement care can make all the difference to a couple's healing process as those that receive it will remember that they were given privacy and that "people were kind, showed empathy and showed that they cared"
