Private clinic offers new migraine treatment

Private clinic offers new migraine cure
A private clinic in London is offering patients a surgical cure for migraine, which affects more than six million people in the UK.

Surgeons remove a muscle in the head called the 'corrugator' muscle. Located above the eyebrows, the interaction between this muscle and nerves can trigger throbbing headaches and nausea.

According to Professor Thomas Muehlberger, director of the new Migraine Surgery Centre in Harley Street, the surgical procedure is effective as, unlike drugs, it addresses the actual cause of migraines.

The professor told the Daily Mail: "Surgery will offer many of those affected a real chance of freeing themselves from their migraines completely, or at least reducing the severity and frequency of their attacks."

The expert has already carried out the procedure on 500 patients in Germany and a paper due to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine will document its high success rate.
