Cigna targets India for health insurance

The joint venture between Cigna and Indian conglomerate TTK Group will be called Cigna TTK and will sell health insurance in India by 2013. Cigna is the first U.S.based health insurer to apply for entry into the India market.

The joint venture will offer individual private medical insurance, supplemental health and accident insurance and health benefits for expatriates.

With 1.2 billion people - one-sixth of the world's total population - India is seeing an increase in chronic health conditions and diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, mirroring worldwide trends.
