With major NHS restructuring, what lies ahead for health customers in 2011?
Sue Weir of Medicash comments, “As the popularity and understanding of cash plans increases, we expect to see a continued growth of new business from employers looking to provide affordable yet comprehensive healthcare. By offering cash plans, employers can provide a tangible benefit that will help boost employee morale and welfare. Consumers are becoming more focused on saving money and making any purchase work as hard as possible for them, so for cash plans there is likely to be more emphasis on their value added propositions, rather than the traditional benefits. For example Medicash has increased the age of dependant children on parents’ plans to reflect the increasing number of people staying in full time education. We have also added worksite health screening to our corporate plans.”
Weir concludes, “The government’s budget cuts will put further pressure on an already heavily stretched NHS. In order to have peace of mind that healthcare can be accessed when it is needed, individuals may sign up to cash plans which will give them the flexibility of choice to choose the most suitable type of care for them, either from the NHS or privately.”
