Research has suggested that being in good health is an important factor to enjoy older age.
Conducted by Engage Mutual, the study found that relatively good health is the most cited factor necessary to enjoy life over 50.
This was followed by more time to enjoy life and holding a relatively good financial position.
Furthermore, people over the age of 50 were seen to be generally more content with life than their younger counterparts.
In fact, 40 per cent of those surveyed said that they are more content now than they have ever been.
Around 85 per cent declared that things they used to worry about when they were in their 20s and 30s no longer seem important.
A spokesman for the company commented: "It is heartening that so many are finding that being in your fifties can be the most rewarding time of your life.
''With increased life expectancy, being 50 is considered to be relatively young these days."
