Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia West End stars get 4D baby scan

Jon Boydon & Nicky Willson looking at the 4D scan
Jon Boydon, who plays Tommy DeVito in the West End musical ‘Jersey Boys’, and his wife Nicky Willson, who until recently was starring in Mamma Mia, visited the BMI Syon Clinic this week to experience the latest in cutting edge 4D ultrasound technology.

Jon and Nicky, who is 27 weeks pregnant, are expecting their first child and had been invited by the Syon Clinic to come face to face with their unborn baby with the latest 4D ultrasound technology. The 4D refers to the technologies ability to allow Jon and Nicky to view their unborn baby in the womb with 'real time' moving 3D images. Jon and Nicky were able to see their baby in clear detail moving in similar ways to that of a newborn baby. The technology uses a similar level of intensity to that of a 2D ultrasound, yet the 4D scan opens up a more intimate way for expecting couples to experience the joy of bonding with their unborn baby. After the scan Jon and Nicky were able to take away a gift pack, containing a DVD of the moving images from the scan, framed photograph, teddy bear and baby clothes, to commemorate the moment.

After the scan Jon commented: “Syon Clinic is a fantastic high-end facility that has both friendly and welcoming nurses and clinical staff. The technology being used to produce a 3D, real-time moving image of our unborn baby is truly amazing and has really helped us get a sense of what they will look like when we welcome them into the world. The traditional 2D scans don’t provide anywhere near the level of clarity that the 4D scans do. Also being able to take away the DVD is great as we can share the experience with both our family and friends. Being able to see our baby’s face is the best Christmas present ever and I would recommend it to any expectant parents.”

The 4D scan at  Syon Clinic is preformed by an experienced sonographer who is also able to determine the sex of the baby and ensure that their development is normal and that the baby is healthy. Jenny Liggitt, the General Manager of BMI Syon Clinic commented: “The 4D scanning technology isn’t a replacement for the 12 week dating scan or 20 week anomaly scan so we always recommend to our patients that they keep all their NHS antenatal and ultrasound appointments. The 4D scan is however an excellent complement to these and really helps a couple bond with their baby and build up their excitement for the big day. It was an absolute please inviting Jon and Nicky down to  Syon Clinic. Having seen Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia in the West End it was a great pleasure for all our staff to meet them both and from everyone at Syon Clinic we would like to wish them and all our patients a very merry Christmas.”
