Alternative fertility treatment could be successful

Care Fertility in Nottingham

Women who have been offered an alternative fertility treatment by a private clinic have seen positive results.

The pilot conducted by Care Fertility in Nottingham, administered Intralipid to 50 women who had all experienced numerous failed IVF cycles.

Intralipid is a soya oil-based substance that is usually used in the artificial feeding of patients with stomach problems.

However, the women were administered intravenous infusions of the treatment in a bid to increase their likelihood of pregnancy.

A further 46 women, who had experienced similar problems, were monitored but not given the treatment.

Of those who had been given Intralipid, 50 per cent achieved pregnancy, while just nine per cent of the control group became pregnant.

Dr George Ndukwe, medical director at the private fertility clinic, commented: "Every day in my clinic I see women who have endured numerous IVF cycles all with the same negative outcome and no baby.

"I also regularly see couples who have suffered the misery of repeated miscarriage."
