Pioneering knee surgery in Sunderland

knee surgery

A pioneering form of knee surgery has been successfully performed at private hospital, Spire Washington in Sunderland.

The system uses a computer in order to ensure that the joints in the knee are perfectly aligned.

Businessman Stan Lamb, who was among the first patients to have the surgery, told local paper The Journal "the operation was first class".

He added: "I didn’t feel any pain after surgery, was back on my feet in no time and a game of golf is just around the corner.

"Despite my initial fears of surgery, I had a very pleasant experience."

The surgery is celebrated for the short rehabilitation time it provides patients.

Another advantage is the reduced wear and tear of implants due to the more exact alignment enabled with the use of a computer and a surgical infrared camera.

Mr Lamb was able to return home 3 days after the surgery.

He has regular physiotherapy sessions to ensure his knee continues to work properly.
