Many Britons are embarrassed about their teeth and could benefit from
cosmetic dentistry, an expert has said.
Relationship expert Dr Pam Spurr claimed that many people are concerned about the state of their smile.
"When they smile they know that they reveal their teeth and if those teeth are crooked, it makes them incredibly self-conscious," she explained.
Dr Spurr cited a recent survey of over 1,000 women by Invisalign, which uses a series of clear, plastic, removable 'aligners' to gradually straighten the teeth.
The research found that 46 per cent of respondents were embarrassed about their teeth and that 60 per cent thought that a great smile required straight, even teeth.
Although teeth straightening traditionally required painful braces, dental practitioner Dr Paul Humber revealed that people can now improve their smile more comfortably thanks to Invisalign.
The technology is proving popular across a range of ages, with Dr Humber treating patients as young as 13 and as old as 70.
