Brits warned insurance will not cover ESTA repatriation

Essential Travel logo

Following a report that nearly 60 per cent of British travellers are unaware of the new Electronic System of Travel Authorisation (ESTA), EssentialTravel.co.uk warns any traveller denied entry into the US will not be covered by their travel insurance.

ESTA is the new compulsory US visa application waiver system – which requires guests to register their intent to travel up to 72 hours before departure.

Any traveller who has not been pre-approved under the ESTA scheme will almost certainly be prevented from boarding their flight in the UK, or be denied access into the USA by Customs officials upon arrival.

Stuart Bensusan at EssentialTravel says, “Sadly ignorance is no excuse. US immigration officials are not going to be lenient to anyone who turns up without the necessary clearance. And anyone who forfeits their holiday - flight, accommodation, cruise etc - because they don’t have an ESTA will not be able to claim on their travel insurance. It is their responsibility to secure the necessary travel documentation."
