Westfield donation helps special needs school

A £5,000 donation from Westfield Health has helped a special needs school purchase a minibus that is vital for their pupils’ education.

Heritage Park Community School is an all age specialist SEBD school for up to 84 pupils. All children have a complex mix of emotional, behavioural and social difficulties combined with some mental health and communication issues.

Diane Talford, Charity Fundraiser at the school, said: “This minibus is vital to the running of the school and the education that our children receive.

“We engage pupils with a varied and stimulating curriculum while attempting to meet their very challenging emotional needs with a variety of interventions.

“We run after-school clubs, Saturday clubs and during the holidays we operate a wide range of activities and days out.

“The bus is also used by our school sports teams. Our football team plays other schools in inter-school matches. Outdoor activities are an essential part of our school curriculum and help to develop our children’s social development and teamworking skills.

“We also have a thriving Music and Drama Department and we take our pupils out to other schools and the community to perform concerts.

“This is an absolutely fantastic donation from Westfield. We are a very small school, and so fundraising can be difficult, especially when trying to raise a substantial amount of money such as this. We are extremely grateful to Westfield for their support.”
