Switch to private dental insurance

Independent health insurance broker, Essential Healthcare is urging the millions of Briton's forced to forego their regular dental check ups due to a shortage of NHS dentists to bite the bullet and switch to private dental insurance.

A survey for the Citizens Advice Bureau, published earlier this month, showed that an astonishing one third of us go without treatment as it becomes more and more difficult to find an NHS dentist. The study showed millions waited more than 20 months for an appointment before either going to a private dentist or going without dental treatment.

Brian Mulreanny, managing director of health insurance firm Essential Healthcare advises the estimated 7.4 million people unable to access affordable dental care to consider private dental insurance for themselves and their families. “The figures quoted in this study show just how difficult it can be to care for your dental health. Inaccessible dental care has slowly been getting worse with more and more turning to costly emergency private dentistry after being unable to find a dentist willing to accept NHS patients. With UK dentistry the most expensive in Europe, it pays to shop around for a good value private health insurance policy for dental health, especially for those on a lower income who often find themselves bearing the brunt of the dental crisis.”

Studies and reports by the NHS and independent parties have shown a marked decline in appointment availability and an alarming increase in the number of young dentists defecting to the private sector. While the NHS promises to address the issue, low cost private dental insurance is increasing in popularity.
