Scottish Friendly lands international award for best practice

Scottish Friendly has won a prestigious international award for best practice in insurance administration - one of only five firms worldwide to be recognised, and the only European winner.

The accolade came from Celent, a global independent research consultancy based in Boston, Massachusetts, and follows the society's bagging of a National Business Award for use of technology last year.

Neil Lovatt, Scottish Friendly sales and marketing director, says: "This is a very big award for us - it is not normal for an American company to recognise a British insurance company, let alone a friendly society."

The tiny insurer's IT platform has been the basis for its drive into new products.

The mutual is pursuing organic growth alongside mergers and consolidation, and business processing for third parties.

Last autumn, it announced distribution tie-ups with both Royal London and Resolution, following an agreement with Forces Financial, which serves the armed forces.
