Colwyn Bay convalescence homes close

Two luxurious North Wales convalescent homes are due to close. The Mary Bamber and John Braddock centres in Colwyn Bay will shut after decades providing care for recovering patients.

Medicash, which runs the two homes, blame falling numbers of people wanting convalescent respite, and high operating costs for the decision.

There are now concerns about what will happen to the buildings and the acres of picturesque land in which they are set.

Medicash took the reluctant decision to close the centres against a backdrop of falling numbers of people requesting convalescence facilities (currently less than 1% of its membership), changes in the healthcare market and the £1m annual operating costs.

Medicash continues to enjoy a very robust financial position and will continue to support local and national charities through its charitable trusts.
