A consumer campaign aimed at raising the awareness of the benefits of private health insurance is being launched by the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) in January.
The campaign, aims to alert consumers to the knowledge and expertise health insurance intermediaries provide. It hopes to persuade customers that buying medical insurance through an intermediary is often a better option than going direct.
AMII chairman Stephen Walker said that consumers need to be made more aware of private healthcare, how it works and what the advantages are.
He said: "We are seeing too much media focus concentrating on the high costs of medical insurance and rejected claims. These issues need addressing. We must get across that choice costs money and paying for private medical treatment either comes from savings, borrowings or insurance. And insurance is a way of pre-funding treatment, based on risk, that makes private healthcare available to more people."
