Hospitals in India are seeing more and more patients from the UK, thanks to cost-effective procedures and the problems of treatment availability on the NHS, experts have said.
According to the Taj Medical Group, many patients are choosing to visit India for treatment after being rejected by the NHS in the UK.
A group spokesperson told the Hindustan Times: "The government has told obese people they will not have operations unless they lose weight, which is a problem if they have hip or knee problems and cannot exercise."
Patients choosing to seek treatment abroad are usually impressed by the prices, with a typical knee operation in India costing less than half the amount you would pay for private treatment in the UK.
Meanwhile, they can expect treatment of the highest standards, as India's healthcare sector has an excellent reputation for its private hospitals, helping to make the country a leading global healthcare destination.
