Improved private medical insurance from PruHe

Innovative private health insurer, PruHealth is enhancing its PruHealth range from Ist July.

  • Fairer underwriting
Vitality Underwriting will take into account current medical conditions and how healthy people's current lifestyles are. So, those with a well-managed chronic condition, such as high blood pressure, but otherwise living a healthy life, will no longer be penalised.
  • Walking points
Customers can earn Vitality points, which reduce future premiums, by walking. A new online health and well-being coach, Fitbug, uses a pedometer to record distances run or walked
  • More information
In a move to increase personalisation, there is a new short questionnaire. The Personal Health Review earns Vitality points by providing more detailed information on health and what can be done to improve it.
  • Personal Health Fund
Only available for the business versions of policies, available where two or more individuals are insured on a company paid basis. This new fund allows the company to fund benefits traditionally excluded from private medical insurance; monitoring chronic conditions, private GP care, and routine health screens.

The aim of the four initiatives is to attract more people to private medical insurance, reward people for staying healthy, and improve cover.

PruHealth has seen customer numbers double in 2006 to 50,000.
