Health screening service for the over 50's

Annual MOT tests give us peace of mind with our cars but people are failing to take the same precautions with their health.

Annual MOT tests give us peace of mind with our cars but people are failing to take the same precautions with their health.

Saga, the over 50s health provider, is urging today's over 50s to take a more proactive stance when it comes to their health.

Statistics reveal that this age group is more likely than other age groups to suffer from heart disease, osteoporosis and colon cancer.

Early detection is vital in improving the chances of curing these conditions.

Research shows that

1 in 3 women and 1 in 12 men aged over 50 suffer from osteoporosis

-99% of coronary heart disease deaths occur amongst the over 45s
-100,000 people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes each year
The outlook is not all doom and gloom, as with a car MOT, early detection and treatment of problems can save a lot of money and heartache in the long run.

Saga is offering people the chance to achieve peace of mind on their health by introducing a new health screening service providing modern CT scanning techniques at an affordable price.  Access to CT scanning without a referral from a doctor, has previously been the preserve of the very rich or the very sick.  Saga is now able to bring this technology to the many by making it more affordable.

The Saga MultiScan is a combination of CT scans and blood tests, specifically developed to screen for common conditions affecting those aged 50 and over. This includes osteoporosis, early signs of heart disease and colon cancer, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.

By developing this special combination scan, Saga has been able to achieve a significant discount for its customers, the full scan costs 530, substantially cheaper than the 1,000 that the scans and tests would cost if bought separately. It is recommended that scans like Saga MultiScan are carried out every five years.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive, Saga, says: It is well documented that as a nation we are living longer, but unfortunately as we get older our risk of developing certain conditions does increase. CT scanning can give us peace of mind and enable us to take actions to improve our life chances.

The Saga MultiScan is provided in association with Lifescan, a leading UK provider of CT screening since 2002. Using the latest in CT technology LifeScan offers individuals access to a 16 slice CT scanner which produces unrivalled CT diagnostic images. Existing single and four slice CT scanners do not have the same capability and functionality.
