Zurich’s critical illness claims figures for
2011, show payments of £64.5 milion, and 92% of all claims paid.
The number of critical illness claims paid out in
2011 was 796, compared with 787 in 2010.
Of claims declined during 2011, 6.8% were due to
the definition of the condition not being met.
Only 1.2%, 8 claims were turned down as a result
of non-disclosure, a figure that has remained constant over the past three
years.
The largest single claim paid out was for
£1.1million.
Of the top four conditions covered:
- 58% were made for cases of cancer, up from 50%
in 2010 and 48% in 2009
- 9.1% heart attack, down from 11.9% in 2010 and
12.9% in 2009
- 5.9% strokes
- 3.8% multiple sclerosis
Phil Brown of Zurich says, “If a claim is
legitimate we will accept it as swiftly as possible through a process that is
straightforward. We know that this makes a big difference to customers and
their families at a time when they are in need of financial and practical
support."
