Despite the tough
economic climate, more women are choosing to get cosmetic surgery procedures.
According to the
British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps), 38,771 cosmetic
operations were conducted on women during 2011 – a rise of 5.8 per cent
compared to 2010's figures.
Breast augmentation was the most popular procedure with 10,015 females opting
for surgery during last year.
"The continued popularity of aesthetic plastic surgery, even through
financially difficult times, demonstrates that the public sees real value in
the psychological and physical improvement that can be achieved," said
Rajiv Grover, consultant plastic surgeon and Baaps president elect with responsibility
for the latest figures.
He explained that advancements in cosmetic surgery now mean the conventional
tell-tale signs of procedure are a thing of the past and patients are left
looking and feeling refreshed.
The group recently reassured people that the gel used in PIP implants does not
lead to an increased risk of cancer.
