Cosmetic surgery procedures 'rising'

Baaps logo

The number of cosmetic surgery procedures conducted in 2010 was five per cent higher than the number for 2009.

This is according to the latest figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).

Stephen Handisides, managing director of MyFaceMyBody.com, suggested that the increase is partly because the "babyboomers are now approaching retirement and are looking for ways to keep themselves looking younger and employable for longer".

However, he added that the increasing number of celebrities admitting to having had work done is also influencing consumers' choices.

BAAPS' figures show that breast augmentation procedures increased by ten per cent in 2010, while facelifts were 12 per cent up on 2009.

Meanwhile, gynaecomastia, or man boob procedures, rose from being the third most common procedure among men to the second most popular.

This represented a 28 per cent increase in the number of operations, with a total of 741 conducted during the year.
