Royal Liver is in advanced talks with Royal London on a takeover. The idea of a merger between the two was first discussed in 2007, when talks were abandoned at an early stage. Royal Liver has since held unsuccessful talks with LV. Royal Liver is looking for a buyer after an unhappy 2009. The FSA is putting pressure on smaller mutuals to seek a home with larger companies.
